It’s safe to say that you should be well equipped when you go to fight the Warden. The best armor and weapons, with lots of stuff to help you regenerate your health.
Trying to keep your distance from the Keeper during a fight should be a priority. Even if you can tank one shot, you’re not sure if you can tank two.
How to kill guardians in Minecraft
Now that you know where to find guardians, you’ll need to know how to kill them when exploring the deep darkness. This is where it gets tricky because you wouldn’t want to attempt to kill a Warden, let alone a Grand Warden. The reason is that Guardians are the strongest mobs in the game. Guardians are taller than iron golems and can kill you in two hits if you’re wearing full Netherite armor. Guardians have been reported to get faster when you attack them, so the best tactic with Guardians is to avoid them and run away.
Once you get more comfortable with dodging and fleeing Wardens, the best way to kill a Grand Warden is to lure them into an area that has been rigged with explosives and blow them up with it inside of. While it’s too early to tell whether this will kill him or just make him angrier, it’s a good approach to killing a Grand Warden.
What makes the Keeper so scary?
The developers in their Minecon sessions have attributed the Guardian a natural disaster, one to avoid and not to fight. While other mobs stop chasing and attacking a player once they become invisible, the Warden does not. The Guardian is blind and follows you at the sound of your footsteps and whenever he attacks him, he accelerates towards you with every strike. Once he reaches you, he usually kills you in one hit unless you have powerful Netherite enchanted armor, in which case you can last long enough for two hits.
The Warden is also the only mob that interacts with the biome he is in: he can dim the lights around him, thus making it more difficult to aim or run away. While other mobs usually don’t attack each other, the Guardian attacks other mobs aimlessly. If you as a player attack him then he will stick to you and follow you instead of being distracted by other mobs nearby. The Warden also has the highest health in the game, even more than the Ender Dragon.
Where to find Ancient Cities in Minecraft
In general, you’ll need to dig deep enough to find the Deep Dark in order to find Ancient Cities. Both the biome and the ancient city are quite rare, so if you are not ready to root underground you can use the seed 3018068664000894136 and travel to 494, -47, -581. If you’re a purist and would like to do this without a specific seed, dig between -30 and -55 and take note that Deep Dark tends to spawn in biomes with low erosion value, such as a mountain peak or plateau.
The Warden is a blind mob, and if you play well you can use that to your advantage. While looting an ancient city, you will come across a block called a sculk shrieker. After activating these four times, The Warden will materialize, crawling out of the ground around you.
This is an interesting skill that can really mess with your sense of direction. When The Warden gets close to you, your vision will automatically lower and you won’t be able to see as far as you normally would. This can cause some confusion as you may not know what awaits you when you escape from The Warden.
I fell into random holes and traps only because I couldn’t see them in time thanks to this skill. To somewhat counter this, you can drink a potion of night vision before starting to fight The Warden. Otherwise, you will definitely have a hard time. Keep in mind that torches or other light sources won’t help you in this case, so be sure to bring that potion with you. Even the night vision potion won’t completely restore your vision, but it’s better than nothing.
