Read below to understand what FPS you can expect from different types of devices and monitors and how they perform.
- 30 FPS – This is the level of performance usually targeted by budget gaming consoles and PCs. Keep in mind, however, that significant stuttering is only really noticeable below 20 FPS, so anything above 20 FPS can be considered playable.
- 60 FPS – This is the target for most gaming PCs. On consoles, only less demanding or better optimized games can manage a stable 60 FPS. However, the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X will aim for this in most games.
- 120 FPS – This is the kind of frame rate that can only be seen on monitors with refresh rates of 120-165Hz. Usually, only powerful high-end gaming PCs can run demanding games at this level of performance without any drop in settings.
- 240 FPS – This FPS is reserved for the fastest 240Hz monitors. 240 FPS is as high as modern displays.

Why should I have 120Hz/144Hz monitors?
After discovering the answer to “how many FPS can the eye see?”, you may wonder why you would spend the extra money on 120Hz/144Hz monitors if the eye can only see up to 60 frames per second . Wouldn’t that be a waste? Well, the answer is a bit complicated and is still being studied.
How we see flashes of light (like images) versus how fast we can see movement is very different. It’s as if our brain can “see” things that our eyes don’t. The higher the Hz, the smoother your images and the smoother fluid motion you can see.

Verdict: Valorant isn’t the most challenging game, it doesn’t need to be have a high-end gaming PC to play to its full potential. However, if you plan to upgrade your PC, we recommend that you also upgrade to a 144Hz or higher monitor to utilize the full performance of your PC. Having a monitor with a higher refresh rate reduces input lag and improves the overall gaming experience.
