Is Roblox inappropriate for 7 year olds?

There have been reports of nudity and stranger danger online with Roblox. The reports are said to come from the Kent Police Department near London in the UK. I’m here to say that these reports are false.

The report came from the headmaster of Bredhurst Church of England Primary School. He came out later apologizing for misleading parenting.

Getting Started with Roblox

Children sign up for Roblox with their date of birth. It is important for children to enter the correct date of birth because Roblox has default security and privacy settings that vary based on the age of the player.

All Roblox games have security and privacy measures. User-uploaded images are reviewed by human moderators for inappropriate content before being posted. Players 13 and older can see and speak more words and phrases than younger players, but inappropriate chat and sharing of personal information (including phone numbers and addresses) is blocked regardless of age. YouTube channel links and some social media usernames may be shared by players aged 13 and over.

Roblox for kids: is it safe?

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), the non-profit self-regulatory body for the video game industry, gives Roblox an ESRB rating of E10+, meaning it’s suitable for all players aged 10 and up, although it is also a popular game among younger players. As a result, Roblox’s stringent community standards focus on promoting a safe and secure environment for players of all ages.

Roblox has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to child endangering, violence, bullying and harassment, among other key safety principles. The platform uses both the software and 1,600 human moderators to filter and block inappropriate content, but sometimes offensive communications or inappropriate user-generated content can slip through.

Why is it so popular with kids?

There are several reasons why Roblox is so popular with kids.

Roblox Tips for Parents

  • Participants and behavior are closely guided in setting up Connected Camps, but at any other time (outside of the club), children they will join public servers with others. Some things parents need to be aware of:
  • Kids can instantly turn off the chat when they join so there is no risk of sharing links or swearing.
  • Parents can set restrictions on their children’s Roblox accounts here. If you set your account birthday to under 13, it limits your chat options and puts a stricter restriction on chat.
  • Read this information from Roblox to learn how to set up the account so that your child can only chat with added friends.
  • You can look at the account inbox to see all messages sent and received by the account to know if anyone is trying to talk to your child.
  • In the upper right corner of the home page (and on the profile), there is a list of recently played games that you can monitor as a parent to make sure your child does not join inappropriate games.

Roblox offers an engaging online place for kids to play with friends. We hope this guide will help you learn more about the world of Roblox and help you find titles your kids will love. For fun and games in our moderated environment, be sure to check out our weekly clubs.
