The following factors will ultimately decide which of the two versions of Minecraft will be more ideal for your gaming needs!
If you are looking for cross-platform gameplay then Bedrock is better as it allows for cross-platform multiplayer access across consoles, mobile and PC (Windows 10). While the Java Edition is limited to PC only and only allows you to play with other players on Java which is a bit more limiting.

Minecraft Java versus Bedrock
Of the two editions, Java came out first in 2011 as a PC exclusive. Notch, the game’s original developer, wrote the game in Java, hence the name.
Microsoft acquired Notch’s Mojang company in 2014 and in 2016 released a new edition of the game called Bedrock Edition. This edition was built from scratch in C++ and included support for other gaming platforms, including Microsoft’s Xbox console.
Minecraft Java Vs Bedrock: Bedrock Pro
Although the Java Edition has many advantages for advanced players, Bedrock also has its advantages. Let’s take a look at the main pros of Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
- Ability to play with friends/family on different platforms
- Requirements are more compatible with lower spec systems
- Add-ons are less likely to cause problems
- Difficulty is a little easier
Minecraft Java – What’s included?
If you’re looking to tinker with mods, you’ll immediately want to hover over to the Java edition of Minecraft. You’ll be able to customize every part of this title, from resource packs to the skins you find online and much more. When you’re done, you may not even recognize the game you’re playing anymore. You can help gaming run better on an entry-level PC or push your gaming PC to its limits with ray tracing, better water, and more.
However, if you’re looking to join some multiplayer hi-jinks, you’ll only be able to play with other PC players using Java, as the multiplayer aspect isn’t compatible between Minecraft types. This means that if you have a friend who is playing on Xbox, PlayStation, Mobile or Nintendo Switch, you will not be able to play with them. This could be a deal breaker, and as long as you don’t mind spending a few bucks, you’ll be able to customize your game with in-app purchases.
Bedrock Edition
Minecraft Bedrock Edition was initially created as Minecraft Pocket Edition and was a mobile version of the main Minecraft game. It was created after the traction that Java Edition was getting. Later, it was bought by Microsoft and accelerated to the point where it is in power with Java Edition. Bedrock Edition of Minecraft is the best edition if you want to get more social experience as it is available on all platforms. If you have Minecraft that isn’t Java Edition or on PC, then it’s Bedrock Edition or a variant thereof. While it looks identical to Java Edition, there are many substantial differences in gameplay and support since Microsoft owns it. It’s very easy to pick it up and play with friends and family. You can also play with people from different platforms as it has crossplay and cross-platform support.
