Is 150 FPS good?

FPS is an acronym used a lot in games, but it actually represents two very different things within the gaming industry.

The first meaning of FPS is “first person shooter”, which refers to video games such as Call of Duty, Halo and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, in which players play a first person perspective character and attempt to shoot enemies. The gaming genre is a popular one, but the acronym FPS is also commonly used to describe something entirely different.

Optimal game FPS depends on what you want to achieve

For many years, playing games at 30 FPS was more than enough for anyone. However, as technology has advanced, players and developers have tried to make the most of it. Soon, 60 FPS became the new standard for single-player games, while 120 or more became the standard for multiplayer games, especially first-person shooters.

This might lead you to think that more is always better, and while you will certainly have a smoother experience, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the best option for you.

What is FPS?

First of all, let’s clarify what FPS is for those who are new to gaming. FPS is an acronym which stands for frames per second. In essence, it represents how many frames your GPU can render each second.

For example, if a game runs at 1 frame per second, you would only see one image per second. It’s more like a slideshow than a real-time experience, and a game would be unplayable at 1 FPS.

What is a good FPS for Fortnite?

Here we will try to break down different FPS setups and how they might affect your gaming experience.

The short answer is no, but there are a couple of reasons for this, which are worth understanding to optimize gameplay. On mobile phones, all up to the latest models, a gameplay at 30 FPS would have been enough. The same goes for a Nintendo, or other “lower caliber” gaming console or single player games in general. However, if you’re looking to play a multiplayer game and on a console or PC, 30 FPS will set you back too far. It’s acceptable, but by no means optimal. Your enemies may see you a little faster, rapid fire and turbo building in Fortnite will be significantly slower than other players at 60 FPS. 30 FPS is not an option for any gamer, even a mediocre one.

Smoothness of animation in CSGO

You will probably notice that there is a huge difference between 60 FPS and 240 FPS. The difference you notice is in the smoothness of the animation.

This is because update speeds occur at different frequencies. On 60 FPS gameplay, the animation has 60 times to update its position and at 240 FPS the updates happen 4 times as frequently which makes the animation much smoother.
