How to see the durability of objects in Minecraft

Minecraft item durability

The survival mode of Minecraft is especially fun and by now you have mastered the game, but a doubt assails you and you would like to find out.

Specifically, you wonder how to see the durability of objects in Minecraft? In fact, you need to know this statistic to be able to prevent possible problems with tools and weapons breaking while you are running around the map and you are far from your “shelter” and the night is approaching. Don’t worry: you’ve come to the right place!

Minecraft item durability

Well, durability affects the items you can use within Minecraft’s Survival mode. In simple terms, after using a tool or weapon for a while, the object wears out and you have to create a new unit.

From the hoe to the pickaxe to the sword: all objects of this type have a certain duration. This varies depending on the material in which you have decided to build the object. The materials from best to worst, in terms of duration, are the following: netherite, diamond, iron, stone, wood and gold.

In short, it is good to keep in mind the mechanics of durability if you want to play Minecraft in Survival mode, otherwise you might familiarize yourself with it in a way that is not exactly pleasant from a gameplay point of view.

Therefore, this tutorial comes to explain how to keep an eye on this statistic, so you know when you will need to build a new object of that type to be able to continue correctly in your adventure.

Having explained how object durability works in Minecraft, I’d say it’s time to move on and understand how to keep an eye on this stat. Below you will find all the relevant indications, related to the Java versions for PC and Bedrock for mobile devices, Windows 10 and consoles.

Minecraft Java Edition

The Minecraft PC Java edition of Minecraft is very played and, therefore, you may want to learn how to perform the operation from the latter.

Actually, everything is very simple: once you start any game in Survival mode, for example by going to the Single Player > Create a New World path, just pick up a tool or weapon and use it against any block.

If you do so, a green bar will appear at the bottom of the item’s box in your Quick Inventory. This bar represents the durability of the item: when it reaches zero, you will no longer be able to use it.

If, on the other hand, you want to get more detailed information about the durability, you have to press the F3 and H keys on your keyboard at the same time. If you are using macOS, you will need to follow my guide on how to use function keys without pressing Fn on Mac by checking the Use F1, F2, etc. as standard function keys box. Doing so will activate the advanced tooltips, which are more precise information about the game.

Then press the E button on the keyboard to enter the inventory and hover the mouse cursor over the icon of the object in question. In this way, you will see the durability statistics in more detail.

In this way, you will be able to more accurately monitor the durability of a particular object, perhaps by running tests to see how much the destruction of a block affects the durability.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Sorry? You’re used to playing Minecraft in its Bedrock version, that is, the one available for Windows 10, mobile devices and consoles, and you’d like to know how to see the durability of objects in the latter? No problem: I’ll explain you how to do it right now!

In this case, you should know that you can not use the advanced tooltips that players have come to know with the Java version of Minecraft for PC. This means that the only option available is still to look at the green bars that appear in the quick inventory as soon as you destroy a cube with a tool or a weapon.

I know: having concrete information at your disposal is not the same as having a green bar, but I assure you that after a while you will get to know and get used to this weapon durability mechanic.
