Weeping Obsidian can only be obtained by trading with a Piglin in the Nether. Before attempting to do this, make sure you are wearing any type of gold armor. A gold helmet will do and requires less gold.
A piglet will be hostile towards you by default and will only be willing to trade if you wear gold somewhere on you.
Minecraft Crying Obsidian
The Crying Obsidian is a variant of the obsidian block and can be used to create a respawn anchor in the game, which is a very important item.

This covers almost everything there is to know about what Crying Obsidian does in Minecraft.
As a raw material, its luminous glow, extreme resilience and unique “weeping” effect make it stand out among other light-emitting blocks.
What does weeping obsidian do?
The Crying Anchor has two main uses in Minecraft. It is used for decoration and creating a thrown anchor.
Dying in Minecraft is terrible and dying in the Nether is even worse. You have to make a long journey from your home base to the overworld, not to mention the risk of the kit being burned by fire or lava. Therefore, a respawn anchor is an extremely useful tool in Minecraft for spawning a set point quickly. To turn Weeping Obsidian into a respawn anchor, you need six Weeping Obsidian and three Glowstones that help place the spawn in the Nether.
The basics
- It’s a block. We’re sure you already knew this (it’s mentioned above), but Crying Obsidian is a fantasy block. It’s as tough as regular obsidian, and as an added bonus, it has a brightness level of 10! This means it will light up your room but won’t melt the ice and snow. Pictured above is Barish displaying a weeping obsidian so you can see how far the light reaches.
- It’s one of the strongest blocks in the game. Weeping Obsidian looks different from regular Obsidian, but behaves the same way. It has a blast resistance of 1,200, cannot be destroyed by the Ender Dragon, and is non-flammable. It also needs to be mined with Diamond or Netherrite Pickaxe.
- It has its limits. It cannot be pushed or pulled by any type of piston and cannot be used to create a Nether Portal. The weird thing about this is that it can spawn as part of the ruined Portal structure.
